I used to be a die-hard coffee drinker. I could barely crack my eyes open enough to begin to brew my first cup. I love the aroma, the warmth and the rich taste of a good cup of freshly brewed coffee. Unfortunately my adrenals did not agree.
Facing some hard truths about what was and was not working for my body was not easy but motivated to regain some of the energy I had lost to adrenal fatigue I ditched my daily cup of joe (or three!) for tea. Now there are what seems like millions of varieties of teas out there and shopping for one can be so much fun! But not only do I want my tea to taste yummy, but I want the added health benefits as well.
When I told the owner of my local health food store how much I was missing my morning cup of coffee he suggested dandelion tea, telling me that its nutty flavor is similar to that of coffee’s. Well, I would not go so far as to say that, but I was willing to give it a try, especially since its health benefits alone are pretty impressive! Some people actually roast the roots, brew up a cup with hot water and add in some creamer and sweetener and call it their “coffee”!
Dandelion root is a fabulous at aiding the liver in detoxifying from all of the added strain placed on it with processed foods, environmental toxins, alcohol and fatty foods. One of the liver’s roles is to produce bile, which helps carry away waste and break down fats in the small intestine during digestion. This alone was enough to convince me to give it a try and I will admit, I have come to love dandelion tea.
Here are a few potentially awesome benefits of drinking dandelion tea daily:

- assist in purifying the bladder and kidney
- reduce the risk of urinary tract infections
- help to purify the blood, regulate blood sugar and improves blood circulation

- help to clear up skin conditions by decongesting the liver
For the best results you should brew your tea for 10-15 minutes and drink up to 2 to 3 times a day. I would just suggest not drinking it too close to bedtime since it does tend to make you have to pee more frequently as it flushes out your kidneys.
If you want to up the benefits even further you can go straight for the actual roots, roast them and either add them to your smoothies or brew your own tea from the roasted roots.
I bet you will never look at those pesky yellow weeds growing on your lawn the same again!
